Hi all! Does one need to clean the "pot" switch on an Altec N501-8A ? Its probably 1975 vintage. If so , how does one remove the set screw on the knob, and would one spray radio shack pot cleaner down the attenuator shaft like on a stereo receiver? Thanks to anyone for your input. Greg R.

I have found that spraying cleaner into a pot from the side opening where the wires attach yields the best result if the pot causes the sound to be scratchy when it is turned. If the pot just turns hard then dipping a tootpick in some light oil and touching it to the shaft under the knob where it goes into the body will make it turn easier. Sometimes you have to dip and transfer oil a couple times to get enough to make the pot turning freely.
